Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has said that Ziaur Rahman turned the country from a famine-ridden state into a grain-rich Bangladesh by digging canals.
''He made Bangladesh self-sufficient in food. Naogaon is the highest rice producing place. Cities are growing and we have to fulfill our food demand accordingly.''
The minister said these at a view exchange meeting after the inauguration of the 1,200-meter excavation program of the Bil Lata Canal from Belgapur to Julupara in Niamatpur Upazila of Naogaon on Monday noon.
“The Prime Minister has put me in his team to serve you. I know that everyone here have complaints about land. I will not say anything openly, but I will do something for people. I will definitely do something for the people honestly.''
The minister futher added, "We are working to ensure that there is no irregularity or corruption in the Land Ministry. Action will be taken against corruption. We have come to be your servant and it is our responsibility to fulfill your expectations. Prime Minister, does not follow any protocol. Criminals should be caught by force and we as a minister do not need any security. We are mixed with the people of the land."
Naogaon-1 MP Mostafizur Rahman presided over the function, while Naogaon Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, District Police Superintendent Mohammad Tariqul Islam, Naogaon District Council Administrator and District BNP President Abu Bakr Siddique Nannu, Naogaon-5 (Sadar) MP Zahidul Islam Dhalu, Naogaon-3 (Badalgachi and Mahadevpur) MP Fazle Huda Babul, Naogaon-4 (Manda) MP Ikramul Bari Tipu and others spoke.
