A passenger bus plunged into the Padma river after losing control at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat of Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 9:30AM at Pontoon No. 7 of the Daulatdia ferry terminal.
No casualties have been reported so far.
Mohammad Salahuddin, Assistant General Manager of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Daulatdia Ghat, confirmed the incident.
He said an SB Paribahan bus travelling from Kushtia to Dhaka lost control and fell into the river from the pontoon area at the ferry ghat.
According to preliminary information, passengers were believed to be disembarking from the bus at the time of the accident, which may have helped avert casualties. However, authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Afroza Parveen said she had been informed of the incident and was heading to the scene.
The latest accident comes less than three months after a deadly bus plunge at the same ferry terminal. On March 25, a passenger bus of Souhardya Paribahan travelling from Kumarkhali in Kushtia to Dhaka fell into the river while boarding a ferry from Pontoon No. 3 at Daulatdia Ghat. A total of 26 bodies were recovered in that incident.
