FIDE Master Subrota Biswas of Dhaka University clinched the title of unbeaten champion in the SSPL International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament-2026, finishing with an impressive 8 points from 9 rounds. The tournament, sponsored by Swapno Shohor Properties Limited, was organised by Dhaka Chess Academy with the support of the Bangladesh Chess Federation and held at the federation's hall-room in Dhaka.
International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Bangladesh Ansar secured the runner-up position with 7.5 points after a consistent performance throughout the event.
Three players finished with 7 points each, and the final standings were determined by tie-breaks. International Master Manon Reza Neer of Bangladesh Navy claimed third place, while FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid of Bangladesh Ansar finished fourth. FIDE Master Mohammad Javed of Bangladesh Navy rounded out the top five.
Players placed from sixth to fifteenth each scored 6.5 points. Among them were FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia (Bangladesh Ansar), Candidate Master Md Abu Hanif (Sadharan Bima Corporation Sporting Club), Anata Choudhury (Manha's Castle), Women's FIDE Master Warsia Khusbu (Bangladesh Navy), Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan (Sports Bangla), Saurabh Choubey of India, Candidate Master Md Sariat Ullah (Sadharan Bima Corporation Sporting Club), Javed Al Azad, Afzal Hossain Sacchu, and Afnan Zarif Haque (Dipali Memorial Chess Club). Oitijjo Barua finished 16th with 6 points.
Several players also received special prizes, including Rayan Rashid Mugdho, Md Tipu Sultan, Ashiya Sultana, Woman Candidate Master Walijah Ahmed, Ajraf Anan, Safayet Kibria Azaan, Md Redoy Ahammed, and Delwar Hossain.
In the ninth and final round, Subrota drew with Javed to secure the championship, while Fahad defeated Tahsin to strengthen his second-place finish. Neer drew with Sakline, and notable wins were recorded by Anata Choudhury, Warsia Khusbu, Afnan Zarif Haque, and Afzal Hossain Sacchu.
The prize-giving ceremony followed the final round. Syed Sujauddin Ahmed, President of the Bangladesh Chess Federation, and Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Amin, Chairman of Swapno Shohor Properties Limited, handed over prizes to the top three finishers. Managing Director Md Khurshid Alam was also present.
The tournament featured a total prize fund of Tk 4 lakh, with champion Subrota receiving Tk 1 lakh, runner-up Fahad Tk 60,000, and third-placed Neer Tk 40,000. Grandmaster Niaz Morshed later distributed prizes among the other winners.
