PATGRAM, LALMONIRHAT, Mar 18: Import and export activities at Burimari Land Port in Patgram Upazila of Lalmonirhat District will remain suspended for 11 consecutive days from March 17 to March 27 to observe Shab-e-Qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Independence Day. The closure includes weekly holidays.
During this period, passengers with valid passports will still be able to cross the border through the port's immigration checkpoint. All commercial activities, however, will remain halted, according to the Burimari Customs Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Agents Association.
The decision to suspend import-export operations was made collectively by local traders in light of the religious and national holidays. The C&F Association has formally informed the Burimari Customs Station, port authorities, District Commissioner, police superintendent, UNO, local police stations, Plant Quarantine Department, Sonali Bank, immigration officials, intelligence agencies, BGB, Indian Changrabandha Customs, Bhutanese customs, importers-exporters associations, BSF, and relevant employee and labor organizations.
Faruk Hossain, President of the Burimari C&F Agents Association, said the suspension was a consensus decision by traders. Operations will resume as normal from March 28.
Meanwhile, SI Saifur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Burimari Immigration Checkpost, confirmed that passport and visa holders will be allowed to cross the border, despite the halt in trade.
Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant Director (Traffic) of Burimari Land Port, explained that commercial operations automatically stop when traders cease work during the holiday period.
Muhammad Mohi Uddin, Deputy Commissioner of Burimari Customs Station, reiterated that import-export activities will remain closed from March 17-27 as per the written notification from the C&F Agents Association. Limited internal administrative work will continue during this time.
