Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced comprehensive and coordinated security arrangements for Eid-ul-Fitr congregations across the capital, stating that no specific security threat has been identified.

Acting DMP Commissioner Md Sarwar shared the update on Thursday while briefing reporters after inspecting preparations at the National Eidgah.

According to officials, a total of 1,771 Eid congregations will be held across Dhaka, including 121 Eidgahs and 1,599 mosques. The main congregation at the National Eidgah Maidan is scheduled to begin at 8:30am, where more than 35,000 worshippers are expected to gather.

At Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, five separate congregations will take place, with the first starting at 7:00am. Additionally, the Dhaka North City Corporation will organize a congregation at the former Trade Fair ground in Agargaon.

Authorities also noted that three congregations will be held on Friday in line with Eid celebrations in Saudi Arabia, while the Shia community will arrange eight separate gatherings on the same day.

Sarwar emphasized that multi-layered security measures have been put in place at all major venues, including the National Eidgah and Baitul Mukarram. These include archways and metal detectors at entry points, CCTV monitoring across the premises, and strict access control.

To ensure safety, certain areas around the National Eidgah—including Matsya Bhaban, Jatiya Press Club, and Shikkha Bhaban—will be restricted to pedestrians, with barricades set up to control vehicle movement. Attendees will be required to enter through designated gates.

Security teams, including CTTC units, Special Branch personnel, and dog squads, will conduct thorough sweeps of the area. The bomb disposal unit will remain on standby, while SWAT members and plainclothes detectives will be deployed to strengthen surveillance.

Law enforcement agencies will work in coordination, with fire service units and emergency medical teams kept ready for any situation.

In terms of traffic management, diversions will be implemented at several key points, including Zero Point, High Court crossing, and Paltan intersection. Worshippers will need to walk from these points to reach the main Eidgah.

Residents have been advised not to carry bags or unnecessary items to prayer grounds and to cooperate with security checks. Authorities also urged the public to report any suspicious activity to nearby police or via the emergency hotline 999.

The acting commissioner added that sufficient police personnel, including traffic officers, will be deployed throughout the city during Eid to maintain order and prevent reckless driving.
