Four people were killed on Sunday morning when a bus collided with a pickup van on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district.
The victims were the driver and passengers of the pickup van. Their identities could not be immediately confirmed.
The collision occurred in the Andiura area, causing the pickup van to overturn and fall into a roadside ditch. Local residents alerted Madhabpur Police Station and the fire service, and rescue teams recovered four bodies trapped beneath the overturned vehicle.
The accident is the latest in a series of deadly crashes that have marred the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. On Saturday night at 2:55 am, a passenger bus traveling from Chapainawabganj to Noakhali collided with a Chattogram-to-Dhaka mail train at the Paduar Bazar railway crossing in Cumilla, killing 12 people on the spot and injuring many others.
Earlier on Saturday, a three-vehicle collision involving a bus, an ambulance and a motorcycle on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Feni's Rampur area killed three people and injured five.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep grief over the series of accidents and ordered immediate investigations into the causes, directing authorities to take exemplary action against those found negligent.
