The government has undertaken an initiative to incorporate structured sports education into the national curriculum from Class Four at the primary level, marking a policy shift towards holistic and skills based learning.

The Ministry of Education has already directed the National Curriculum and Textbook Board to take necessary measures in this regard.

According to an official letter issued on Wednesday by the Government Secondary One Branch under the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the decision follows two separate communications from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The proposed disciplines include football, cricket, chess, karate or volleyball, badminton, athletics and swimming.
