Jamaat Ameer pays tribute on Independence Day

 
Opposition leader in the Jatiya Sangsad and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday extended greetings to the nation on Independence and National Day, saying his visit to the National Martyrs' Memorial was a moral obligation.

"Greetings to everyone on Independence and National Day, Alhamdulillah. We have come to fulfil a moral duty. This is one of the highest state observances. Like everyone else, we came to pay our respects to our great heroes and martyrs," he told reporters after placing wreaths at the memorial in Savar.

Rahman said prayers were offered for the protection of the country's independence and sovereignty. "We prayed to Almighty Allah that the independence and sovereignty of this country remain intact, and that peace and blessings be bestowed upon its people. We hope to build a non-violent, corruption-free, and discrimination-free humane Bangladesh together," he added.
He also conveyed greetings to the people of the country through the media on the occasion.
