Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni on Saturday warned that a group is trying to create an artificial fuel crisis in the country and urged all Members of Parliament (MP) to remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting at the Parliament Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with government party parliamentarians, Moni said the meeting was part of routine pre-parliamentary discussions. The parliament is set to sit again after a long break, which was also addressed in the session.

"Although the global situation is unstable, oil prices have not increased in Bangladesh. The government is supplying fuel with subsidies, and there is no shortage," Moni said. He added that 200,000 metric tons of oil have already arrived in the country, with another 200,000 metric tons in the process of being loaded.

Moni reiterated that ample oil stocks are available, but a group is attempting to create an artificial crisis. "All parliamentarians have been instructed to monitor their areas closely. The government will take action against anyone hoarding more oil than necessary," he warned.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the meeting also reviewed who would speak on topics related to the President's speech and discussed the government's achievements and future challenges within one month of taking office.

Salahuddin noted that while oil prices have risen in many countries, including neighbors, Bangladesh has maintained stable prices, attributing this to careful planning. The government is providing subsidized oil to support farmers during the Boro season.
