Police recovered the body of a brick kiln worker from a pond in Noakhali’s Kabirhat upazila on Sunday, two days after he went missing under unclear circumstances.

The deceased was identified as Md Sohel Rana, 24, son of Oli Uddin, a resident of Uttar Shantipur village in Hatiya upazila.

According to locals, Sohel was found floating in a pond adjacent to the office of Raji Saheb Bricks Manufacturing in Purba Rajurgaon village under Sundalpur union.

It is said that Sohel did not report to work on Friday morning. His father alleged that later in the day, his son had an altercation with relatives, including his maternal uncle Kamal and another person, who attempted to take him to the brick kiln by force. He had remained missing since Friday evening.

Later, local workers discovered the body on Sunday morning and informed police.

Being informed, police recovered the body and it was subsequently identified by his family.

Kabirhat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the recovery and said that initial findings suggest the victim may have drowned after suffering a seizure.

The exact cause of death will be determined following an investigation, added the OC.
