Hasan Md Shawkat Ali takes charge as new CMP commissioner

Deputy Inspector General of Police Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali has joined as the new Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), officially assuming office on Wednesday.

He was welcomed as the 34th commissioner at the CMP headquarters, where senior officials greeted him with flower before he formally took over responsibilities from outgoing Commissioner Hasib Aziz.

Following the handover, the new commissioner held an introductory meeting with senior officials at CMP conference room in Laldighi. 

During the session, he instructed officers to carry out their duties with integrity and professionalism, emphasizing people-friendly policing. 

He also reiterated a “zero tolerance” stance against theft, extortion, drugs and corruption, stressing the importance of maintaining overall law and order in the city.

Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali joined Bangladesh Police through 18th BCS in 1999. Over his career, he has served in key units including Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). 

He has also participated in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Haiti and Mali.

Before his new appointment, he served as DIG (Logistics) at Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Senior CMP officials, including Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) and Additional In-Charge (Administration and Finance) Wahidul Haque Chowdhury, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Muhammad Faisal Ahmed and Deputy Police Commissioner (Sadar) Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, were present on the occasion.
