Opposition leader and Jamaat e Islami Ameer Shafiqur Shafiqur has declared the emergence of renewed fascism in Bangladesh, citing the rejection of popular will expressed through a recent referendum as evidence of democratic backsliding.

Addressing attendees at the Jatiya Ganotantric Party's founding anniversary celebration held at the Jatiya Press Club on Monday, Shafiqur issued a stark warning that opposition forces would prevent any authoritarian trajectory from advancing further.

The Jamaat leader framed his appeal in universal terms, calling upon all Bangladeshi citizens to participate in what he characterized as a people's movement transcending partisan boundaries.

He asserted that the struggle represents a fight for justice and truth that ultimately belongs to the entire population rather than any single political faction.

Shafiqur directed sharp criticism at the current parliament, accusing it of failing to comprehend or honor public aspirations. He announced that his party would bypass parliamentary channels and appeal directly to citizens to implement what he described as the referendum verdict.

Characterizing the mobilization effort as merely an initial phase, Shafiqur emphasized that the movement concerns the welfare of the nation's 180 million inhabitants.

In remarks apparently targeting the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, which secured a commanding two thirds parliamentary majority in recent elections, Shafiqur suggested that organizations incapable of practicing internal democratic governance cannot be trusted to safeguard democracy or security for the broader population.

The Jamaat chief claimed the electoral mandate had been appropriated unlawfully, asserting that the referendum demonstrated clear popular support with 70 percent of voters favoring the Yes position. He presented this figure as conclusive evidence of the public will.

Shafiqur concluded his address by reaffirming unwavering commitment to the referendum outcome regardless of parliamentary acceptance.

He pledged that his party maintained consistent support for the Yes position throughout the process and would pursue implementation of the referendum results through sustained action.
