A Dhaka court has granted police three days to interrogate a suspect in their custody in a case filed over the deaths of six people in a gas lighter factory fire in Dhaka's Keraniganj.

Judicial Magistrate Tanvir Ahmed passed the order after a hearing on Monday, said Prosecution Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Arif.

On Sunday, the arrestee, identified as Iman Ullah alias Mastan, was reamanded custody after another judge set Monday to hear a petition seeking to have him remanded for 10 days.

Iman, 50, was arrested from Kadamtali of South Keraniganj after a case was filed at South Keraniganj Police Station. The other two suspects are the factory owner, Md Akram Ullah Akram, and his son, Ahnaf Akif Akram. Defence lawyer Rifat Ahmed filed a bail application seeking the cancellation of the remand plea.

He argued: "Iman is not involved in anything related to the interests of the factory. He is suffering from various diseases, including diabetes and kidney problems. Considering his illness, his remand application should be cancelled and bail should be granted."    "bdnews24
