BNP leader hacked outside home

A ward-level BNP leader was seriously injured after being attacked with knives by a group of assailants outside his residence in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.

The victim, 55-year-old Nurul Islam, is the Senior Joint General Secretary of Ward No-33 BNP.

The incident took place around 230 pm on Friday in front of his residence on Road No-4 in Satmasjid Housing, Mohammadpur, according to Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector Rakibuzzaman Rakib.

Nurul Islam sustained serious injuries to the left side of his face, shoulder, and left hand. He is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Inspector Rakibuzzaman said, “Several individuals arrived on two motorcycles and stabbed him indiscriminately before fleeing the scene. Some witnesses said there were four attackers, while others said there were six.”

When asked about the motive behind the attack, he said, “It is too early to comment on that. We are trying to identify and arrest those involved.”

However, police initially suspect the attack may have been linked to political rivalry. Speaking at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Bilal Hossain, the victim’s younger brother, said Nurul Islam had been standing downstairs near his residence after Friday prayers when five to six men arrived on two motorcycles and attacked him indiscriminately before escaping.
