Abahani Limited won the battle of prestige as they beat their arch-rival Mohammedan Sporting Club by 2-1 goals in the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) that resumed after nearly one month recess on Friday.

Held at Shaheed Dhirendrnath Datta Stadium in Cumilla, defending champions Mohammedan took the lead early in the 3rd minute. From the left wing, Uzbek midfielder Muzaffar Muzaffarov took a corner kick that went straight into the net giving no chance to Abahani's custodian Mitul Marma to react.

Abahani Limited however staged a fight back in the match when Mirazul Islam restored the parity in the 17th minute with a shot from the close range.

After the resumption, Malian forward Souleymane Diabate scored the winning goal for Abahani ahead in the 66th minute.

Mohammedan however tried their best to stage a fight back in the match but they could not score any in the remaining proceeding.

Shakil Ahad Topu of Mohammedan got the marching order following double yellow cards.
With this win, the traditional sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Limited moved up second position in the league table with 22 points from 12 matches while the black and white Motijheel outfit Mohammedan remained with their previous collection of 11 points playing the same number of matches. Earlier, in the first leg, Mohammedan defeated Abahani Limited by 3-2 goals.    "BSS
