Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi has said that Bangladeshi vessels stranded in Persian gulf amid the ongoing Middle East conflict will be able to resume their journey towards Straight of Hormuz soon.
He made the remarks on Sunday while addressing a mourning gathering and anti-war exhibition held at Dhaka University.
The event, organized by Revolutionary Students’ Council, focused on condemning alleged war crimes and expressing solidarity with victims of the conflict.
The ambassador said Iran, in coordination with Bangladesh government, will take necessary steps to facilitate the safe passage of the stranded ships.
He reaffirmed that relations between Iran and Bangladesh remain strong, describing Bangladesh as a “brotherly nation” with which Tehran holds no hostility.
Speaking on broader geopolitical issues, Jahanabadi referred to recent ceasefire discussions involving Iran and the United States, facilitated by Pakistan and supported by Oman and other countries.
He said Iran is willing to participate in negotiations provided they are conducted with dignity and mutual respect.
He also noted that Iran would observe the ceasefire during talks but warned that any violation by the United States would prompt a response.
The ambassador criticized US actions, alleging that Washington had previously undermined peace efforts and sought to portray Iran as pro-war.
He also claimed that attempts to influence Iran’s political system and assert control over the Strait of Hormuz had failed.
The event at Dhaka University featured symbolic displays highlighting the human cost of the conflict, including coffins representing children, blood-stained school bags, and photographs.
Participants, including students and members of the public, expressed solidarity through demonstrations and an anti-war signature campaign.
Special guest Khomenee Ehsan, convener of the National Revolutionary Council, also condemned the violence, blaming the United States and Israel for civilian casualties, particularly children. He called for an immediate end to the war.
Attendees, including teachers, students, and parents, voiced concern over the impact of the conflict on children, stressing that no political objective can justify such loss of life.
Organizers said the signatures collected during the campaign would be submitted to international human rights organizations.
The programme concluded with prayers for the victims, as participants called for peace and accountability.
