Raju Lama, President of SAARC Journalist Forum (SJF), held a meeting with Rolf Alter, Vice Chairman of United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA), on the sidelines of 25th CEPA session at UN Headquarters in New York.

The discussion took place during the ongoing high-level session focused on strengthening public administration systems, improving governance effectiveness, and advancing institutional reforms aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

During the meeting, both leaders exchanged views on the growing importance of media engagement in promoting transparency, accountability and public trust in institutions.

They also underscored the need for inclusive governance and stronger collaboration between civil society actors, including the media and international policy platforms.

Raju Lama highlighted the critical role journalists play in connecting governments with citizens, noting that independent and responsible media can help rebuild trust in public institutions through informed reporting and global cooperation.

Rolf Alter, a key figure in global public administration reform, emphasised the importance of innovation in governance and the value of multi-stakeholder dialogue in addressing complex global challenges.

The interaction reflected the broader objectives of the 25th CEPA session, which has brought together policymakers, experts and institutional leaders to explore strategies for modernising governance systems and enhancing state capacity worldwide.

Lama’s participation at the UN session also signals the growing visibility of South Asian media leadership in global governance discussions.
