A Dhaka court has granted the Detective Branch (DB) of police an additional five days to interrogate Manzil Haider Chowdhury, a former officer of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), in connection with the "murder" of businessman Abdul Wadud during the July Uprising.

Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas passed the order on Thursday following an application by the DB.

Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi confirmed the development, noting that the court rejected the bail plea submitted by the defence counsel Kamal Hossain. Manzil was arrested last Thursday in Mohakhali DOHS area.

This is the third time he has been placed on remand in the case.

He was first granted a four-day remand on Friday, followed by a three-day remand on Monday.

The fresh remand was granted after the investigation officer, Inspector Md Amjad Hossain Talukdar of the Ramna Zone, sought a seven-day extension. "bdnews24
