A discussion session and inauguration of an arsenic removal filter, organized by ADAMS Foundation, took place on Friday at Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna.
The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor of Khulna Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Ahsan, as the chief guest.
He praised the foundation for its work in improving the lives of underprivileged people and promoting development initiatives across Bangladesh.
He also noted that bringing such organizations under a proper legal framework would help ensure sustainable development.
Reflecting on his experience, he added that he has been working on urban sanitation since 2006 and has visited many areas in that capacity.
Special guests included Professor Dr. Sheikh Sirajul Hakim, Dean of Fine Arts Faculty at Khulna University; Professor Dr. Hamidul Bari from Civil Engineering Department of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology; Chief Executive Officer of Khulna City Corporation, Rajib Ahmed; Managing Director of Bridge of Light Germany, Holger Tricho; freedom fighter and trustee of Community Forum Mohammad Moniruzzaman; and Sheikh Kamruzzaman, President of Community Forum’s central committee. The session was chaired by SM Ali Aslam, Executive Director of ADAMS Foundation.
Participants included leaders and members of community forums from different wards of the city corporation, youth forum members and officials from ADAMS Foundation’s urban healthcare and climate projects.
ADAMS Foundation is currently working in 24 wards under Khulna City Corporation, with each ward having a 15-member committee. Donor organization Bridge of Light Germany has been funding various welfare initiatives in Bangladesh for nearly 40 years, including technical training centers for youth, 10-bed rural hospitals, climate adaptation projects and programs focused on human rights, civic awareness and community development.
The organization has also provided support during disasters such as Cyclone Sidr, Cyclone Aila, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event also included a remembrance session honouring the late founders of the donor organization, Friedel Klipp and Mrs. Methilde von Luninck Klipp.
At the end of the event, guests officially inaugurated a 30-liter capacity arsenic removal filter, jointly developed by ADAMS Foundation, KUET and Ritsumeikan University.
