Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has said that misuse of authority by police personnel will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He made these remarks while addressing a special welfare meeting with heads and members of different police units of Khulna division on Saturday.

The IGP said police members must bring positive changes in their behaviour, mindset and sense of responsibility, adding that they should always remember that police are servants of the people and their main goal should be ensuring public safety and welfare.

He stressed the need to make police stations more accessible, people-friendly and trustworthy for the general public.

Emphasising caution in exercising legal authority, he said transparency, accountability and due process must be ensured in law enforcement.

The police chief also underscored the importance of joint efforts between police and citizens to prevent social crimes, including drug abuse and terrorism, calling for long-term preventive measures involving community participation.

He further highlighted the need for prompt investigation, proper reporting and swift administrative action in the event of any accident or crime.

The meeting was chaired by Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan and attended, among others, by Khulna Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque, Commandant Md Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan and superintendents of police from different districts.

Earlier in the morning, the IGP was given a guard of honour upon his arrival at Khulna Metropolitan Police Lines, where he also planted a sapling.

Later, he visited the under-construction building of Labanchara Police Station in the city’s Labanchara area, inspected the progress and quality of the work and planted another sapling on the premises.
