BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has issued a fierce rebuttal to Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman’s claim that the BNP came to power through "electoral engineering," calling for the political elimination of the party.

Speaking at a press conference following a joint party meeting at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan on Saturday, Fakhrul rejected the allegations and questioned the motives behind such statements.

"We must consider whether they intend to push the country back into autocracy through other means," Fakhrul said. "Their past history is known to all. The people of this country have consciously rejected them. We must work to ensure they are politically eliminated in the future."

The BNP leader described the Jamaat chief's remarks as an attempt to create division and confusion at a time when the nation is transitioning toward democracy.

He emphasized that the recent national election"held after 18 years of fascist rule and a historic student-led uprising"was recognized as free, fair, and transparent by both the public and the international community.

"The BNP formed the government by winning 213 seats in a completely neutral election overseen by the interim government. This process has been praised by domestic and international observers," Fakhrul stated. "Such controversial comments from the Jamaat Ameer are not only undesirable but contrary to sound reasoning."

He further warned that a "special quarter" is repeatedly spreading misinformation to sabotage the opportunity to institutionalize democracy following the August 5 regime change.
The BNP Secretary General urged the nation to remain vigilant against those who might be trying to derail democratic progress and steer the country back toward authoritarianism.
