Police arrested an alleged top criminal along with arms, ammunition and cash in a drive in Chattogram’s Hathazari upazila.
The arrested is identified as Osman Gani alias Mona. He is accused in 18 cases, including murder, robbery, drugs and arms-related offences.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive in Chikandandi area under Hathazari Police Station on Sunday night and arrested Osman.
During initial interrogation, he admitted his involvement in illegal arms trading and various criminal activities.
Police also recovered a foreign-made 7.65mm pistol with a magazine, three single-barrel shotguns, 11 rounds of pistol ammunition, several rifle bullets, 17 rounds of shotgun cartridges, a sharp arm, a switchgear knife, Tk 51,000 in cash, and several mobile phones from his possession.
Police said information obtained from Osman led to the identification of his two associates, Hridoy and Raju, who are currently absconding.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan disclosed the matter at a press briefing held at the district police office on Monday.
A case has been filed against him under the Arms Act with Hathazari Model Police Station, added the official.
