UPDF member killed in Khagrachhari ‘Gunfight’

A member of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) was killed and another injured in an alleged gunfight with Army personnel at Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachhari on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Bobin Tripura, 32, a member of the UPDF faction led by Prasit Bikash Khisa. The injured person was identified as Mongsanu Marma alias Jibon, 29.

Ramgarh Police Station officer-in- charge (OC) Nazir Alam said a patrol team of the Army’s Sindukchhari zone came under attack by armed UPDF members at Premtala area in the morning.

He said Army personnel returned fire following the attack, triggering the gunfight. Bobin Tripura was killed on the spot, while Jibon sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.

An AK-47 rifle was recovered from the spot and the injured UPDF member was arrested, added the OC.

Additional security measures have been taken in the area following the incident, officials said.
