The Anti Corruption Commission has sought documents from multiple agencies as part of an investigation into former Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Sayeda Muna Tasnim and her husband over allegations of embezzlement and money laundering involving nearly Tk 2,000 crore.

ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam confirmed the development on Monday.

According to ACC sources, the commission has written to several authorities, including the National Board of Revenue and the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit, seeking relevant financial and documentary records as part of the inquiry.

Sayeda Muna Tasnim served as Bangladesh's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2018 to 2024. The ACC initiated an investigation against her in June last year on allegations of money laundering.

According to the complaint under scrutiny, her husband, along with Touhidul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of Generation Next Fashion Limited, allegedly embezzled approximately Tk 2,000 crore from various banks and financial institutions through 12 commercial and alleged shell companies and transferred the funds abroad.

ACC officials said both individuals failed to appear despite being summoned, prompting the commission to intensify documentary collection and verification as part of the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, the anti graft body is also examining corruption allegations against former Dhaka North City Corporation administrator Mohammad Ejaz, including matters related to the Gabtoli Hat lease and an e-rickshaw project.

In a related development, a court has imposed a travel ban on Mohammad Ejaz at the request of the ACC, as the commission continues to gather and verify evidence in the case.
