State minister Nurul Haque warns against monopolising July Movement

State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Md Nurul Haque Nur, has cautioned against efforts by specific interest groups to monopolize the legacy of the July Movement.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, Nur compared these current attempts to previous efforts to manipulate the history of the nation's Liberation War.

Participating in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion following the President’s speech, the State Minister urged an end to the propaganda surrounding the recent uprising. He suggested that some entities are attempting to claim sole credit for a struggle that involved broader sacrifices.

Addressing the youth's perspective on the movement, Nur used a sports metaphor to describe the complexity of the struggle. He noted that some might view the revolution as a short event, similar to a 90-minute football match where a late goal-scorer is mistakenly viewed as the only contributor, ignoring the collective effort that preceded the final moments.

Nur, who represents the BNP-led alliance in Parliament, also addressed the "July National Charter" and the rhetoric currently coming from the opposition. He clarified that the Charter provides a clear roadmap for handling political disagreements: any issues that do not have an immediate consensus among parties must be brought before the public for a final mandate.

"The will of the people will ultimately resolve these matters," Nur stated. He defended the BNP’s stance, noting it was natural for the party to implement the Charter while maintaining its previous points of dissent. He cautioned opposition figures against blending facts with falsehoods to create misleading narratives.

The State Minister called for a shift in political culture, urging opposition lawmakers to move beyond reflexive obstructionism. He appealed for a more collaborative environment over the next five years, asking for constructive criticism and positive policy suggestions to help the government stabilize and develop the nation.

Concluding his remarks, Nur expressed optimism for the future of the country, stating his confidence that Bangladesh would progress under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.
