IAB wants end to essential commodity syndication

Leaders of Islami Andolan Bangladesh have called for dismantling market syndicates and ensuring accountability to stabilise the prices of essential commodities. They said that a syndicate-free market and an extortion-free country are now urgent national demands.

The remarks were made Tuesday night at an exchange meeting organized by the Hazaribagh Thana unit of Islami Andolan Bangladesh Dhaka South City at a local auditorium in Hazaribagh.

Speakers at the event urged people to stand united against corruption, extortion, illegal occupation, political vengeance, and dominance. Say no to extortionists and ensure accountability at all levels. Only then can the country move forward in a short time, they said, adding that corruption and extortion have significantly hindered national progress.

The leaders also criticised a reported agreement with the United States, alleging that it was signed secretly without informing the people (public) or Parliament, which they termed a direct violation of constitutional procedures. According to them, such an agreement undermines the country's independent trade policy, tax sovereignty, and public procurement system in favor of foreign corporate interests.
