A national validation workshop on 'gender-responsive climate adaptation' was held in a city hotel on Sunday.

Arranged at Hotel InterContinental, the workshop was attended by policymakers, experts and development partners, stressing the need to strengthen implementation of climate policies in Bangladesh.

The workshop was organised by the Department of Women Affairs with support from the United Nations Development Programme Bangladesh (UNDP), endorsing a policy brief and two Training of Trainers (ToT) modules -- developed under the Gender-Responsive Coastal Adaptation (GCA) Project.

As the Chief Guest Md. Abdul Hye Al Mahmud emphasised institutionalising the gender-responsive climate actions, noting that coastal communities, especially women, face increasing risks from cyclones, salinity and livelihood loss.

Special Guests Monir Hossain and Dr. Akhter Hossain highlighted the need for improved inter-ministerial coordination and capacity building to translate policy commitments into effective actions.

The GCA project funded by the Green Climate Fund, is being implemented in five coastal upazilas of Khulna and Satkhira to enhance resilience among climate-vulnerable communities.

About 30-35 officials from different ministries, agencies, development partners and journalists took part at the workshop.
