Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami led 11-party alliance has announced a 36-day nationwide programme to mark the second anniversary of the July 2024 mass uprising, featuring rallies, seminars, human chains, exhibitions and prayer events across the country.
The announcement was made by Hamidur Rahman Azad, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and coordinator of the alliance, at a press conference held at the party's central office at Moghbazar on Wednesday.
According to the declared schedule, seminars demanding the implementation of the "people's verdict" will be held in all districts and metropolitan areas from July 1 to July 15. On July 6, family members of those martyred during the movement will form a human chain in front of the National Parliament and submit a memorandum to the Speaker.
A national seminar will be held in the capital on July 8, while a discussion meeting involving women participants is scheduled for July 20. A photo exhibition highlighting the events of the uprising will take place from July 23 to July 25.
The alliance will also organise special prayer programmes at mosques across the country on July 31, while followers of other faiths will offer prayers at their respective places of worship. On August 5, rallies will be held from the capital to upazila level nationwide.
In addition, commemorative gatherings will be organised at locations associated with the July uprising, alongside graffiti-drawing programmes across the country.
Hamidur Rahman Azad said the activities would be implemented on different dates throughout the 36-day period, with the alliance's liaison committee finalising the detailed schedule. Previously announced rallies in several metropolitan areas will be held as scheduled, while a nationwide procession programme, excluding Dhaka, will take place on July 4.
Earlier in the day, the alliance's liaison committee met to finalise the programme marking what it described as the anniversary of the "atrocities" committed during the tenure of the previous government.
