Growing threat of urban snatching crimes

Dear Sir,

The prevalence of snatching appears to be increasing across the capital and various regions of the country. Taking advantage of the darkness of night, snatchers often target lone pedestrians.

However, snatching is no longer limited to stealing valuables; in many cases, innocent people are brutally injured, and there are even reports of deaths caused by such attacks. These criminals are active not only at night but also during the daytime, waiting in different areas to carry out their crimes through intimidation, deception, sudden attacks, and other tactics. As a result, incidents of snatching have become an almost everyday occurrence, creating fear and insecurity among the public.

To address this growing problem, proper investigation and strict punishment of offenders are essential. Law enforcement agencies should increase patrols and ensure the installation and monitoring of CCTV cameras in important areas. In addition, employment opportunities, moral education, and public awareness can play an important role in reducing the growing menace of snatching.
