
Three people died of measles and six others died with measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, while 489 new infections of the highly contagious viral disease were detected during the same period.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 61 children have died from confirmed measles infections nationwide since March 15. During the same period, another 291 people died with measles symptoms with death toll surpasses 350.
In its latest bulletin released on Saturday, the DGHS said the highest number of deaths with measles symptoms was recorded in Dhaka division, where 135 people died. Rajshahi division recorded the second highest number with 78 deaths. Chattogram division reported 25 deaths, followed by Khulna with 18 and Barishal with 12.
The health authority said 946 people with measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals in the last 24 hours, of whom 769 were admitted.
During the same period, hospitals in Dhaka division admitted the highest number of patients with measles symptoms at 353, while Rangpur division recorded the lowest with only one admission.
Since March 15, the number of suspected measles cases across the country has risen to 47,656. Among them, 6,979 people have been confirmed infected with measles.
