The alleged mastermind of a fraud gang has been arrested during a joint operation conducted by Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL) and Rajshahi district administration for attempting to extort Tk 16 lakh from a South Korea-bound worker.
The accused, Ahsan Habib, 40, was arrested red-handed on Tuesday (June 16) at Nawdapara Amchattar intersection under Shah Makhdum Police Station in Rajshahi, according to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Officials said Habib, a resident of Ghoraharia village under Paba Police Station, allegedly targeted Md Meraj Ali, 21, of Kashimpur village in Godagari.
Meraj had applied through the government channel to work in South Korea and, after passing the language test, skill test and medical examination, was included in the official roster.
