
CHATTOGRAM, May 9: At least five people were killed and 15 injured in a tragic head-on collision between two passenger buses on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway in Lohagara upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
Of the total deceased, one female passenger died on the spot, while four others died while undergoing treatment in local hospitals. Besides, injured people were rescued and admitted to hospitals.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the road mishap occurred in Chunati area when two buses of Marsa Paribahan lost control and crashed into roadside trees after their drivers attempted to talk to each other. The accident occurred in front of Hotel Four Seasons at 11am.
Deceased were identified as Naimul Abdullah Jihan, 21, son of Chan Ali of Gopalpur village of Sadar upazila of Jhenaidah district, Md. Anwar's son Naim, 22, of the same area, Rehena Begum, 60, wife of Badiul Alam of Habilar Tip area of Patia upazila of Chattagram, and Monir Ahmed, 20, of Bhola district. The names and identities of the others could not be identified.
Injured were identified as Md. Alim, 45, Karim Ullah, 46, Kausar, 14, Jannatul Ferdous, 35, Wasin, 30, Fariha, 17, Md. Masum, 23, Dwip Dutta, 35, and Md. Saiful, 42, of Jhenaidah. Ohers have gone home after receiving first aid.
