GAZIPUR, May 11: Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) Teachers' Association has expressed strong concern and protest against any move to appoint an outsider as the university's Pro-Vice Chancellor (Pro-VC), urging the authorities to prioritise qualified internal candidates for the post.

The demand was raised during a human chain held on the university campus on Sunday.

Leaders of the teachers' association said recent rumours surrounding the appointment of a Pro-VC from another university have created deep anxiety and dissatisfaction among faculty members.

Speakers at the programme said GAU already has many experienced, competent and senior professors with proven administrative and academic leadership abilities. Ignoring internal candidates in favour of an outsider, they warned, could negatively affect the university's academic culture, institutional harmony and continuity in research.

President of the Teachers' Association Professor Dr Nasrin Akter Ivy said GAU has earned national and international recognition through its academic and research excellence, making it both natural and justified to value the university's own qualified and tested teachers in leadership selection.

General Secretary Professor Dr Mohammad Saiful Alam said the university community now expects fair and positive decisions that reflect the aspirations of teachers, officers and staff who believe in nationalist ideals.

The teachers' association also warned that appointing an outsider to such a key administrative post may trigger unwanted unrest on campus. They urged the authorities to appoint a qualified and experienced professor from within the university in the interest of stability, academic progress and institutional continuity.
