A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday as two young brothers drowned in a canal while visiting their maternal grandfather's house at Nazirpur upazila of Pirojpur district.
The deceased, Abdur Rahman, 6 and Abu Bakkar, 4, were the sons of Miraj Sheikh from Nesarabad upazila.
According to family and police sources, the brothers had arrived at their grandfather's home two days prior. On Wednesday afternoon, the children slipped away from their mother's sight and went to a nearby canal that had recently been re-excavated. When the family noticed them missing, they began a search and eventually found their bodies floating in the water.
Nazirpur union parishad chairman Md. Russel Sikder suggested that one brother likely fell into the steep canal and the other drowned while attempting to save him.
Dr. Snigdha Mitra of the Nazirpur Upazila Health Complex confirmed the children were brought in dead.
Nazirpur Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Tarikul Islam stated that, upon the family's request, the bodies were handed over without an autopsy for burial.
