A devastating gas leak explosion at Fattullah area of Narayanganj district, has wiped out an entire family, with the father and his three children dying one after another over the course of several days. The mother remains in critical condition in hospital.

The latest victim was seven-year-old Munni, who died on Thursday afternoon. Earlier the same morning, 12-year-old Munna also succumbed to his injuries. Their four-year-old sibling Kotha had died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.

The family’s father, Abul Kalam, a vegetable trader, died on Monday after suffering severe burns in the incident.

Their mother, Salma Akter, remains in critical condition with burns over 60 percent of her body at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, doctors said.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning , May 10, in a residence near Gram Bangla Tower at Giridhara area of Fattullah.

According to locals, a sudden explosion followed by a fire erupted inside the house, allegedly triggered by accumulated gas leakage.

All five family members were rushed to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute after being rescued by locals.

Doctors said Munna suffered burns on about 40 percent of his body, while Munni had burns on around 35 percent.

Family members said Abul Kalam, originally from Bauphal in Patuakhali, was preparing to leave for work when the explosion occurred as he lit a match in the kitchen, likely igniting accumulated gas inside the room.
