Measles death toll reaches 439 as 7 more die in 24hrs

Seven more children died from measles and similar symptoms in Bangladesh in 24 hours till 8:00am on Thursday, taking the death toll to 439.

Of the new deaths, one was confirmed as measles-related while the remaining six were classified as suspected, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the suspected deaths, highest four were recorded in Dhaka division.

With this, the total number of confirmed deaths from measles has risen to 70 and suspected deaths to 369, it said.

According to DGHS data, a total of 1,363 suspected measles cases were recorded during the period. The total number of suspected cases has reached 54,419 during the period.

Besides, 155 new confirmed measles cases were reported in 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 7,305.

Since March 15, a total of 39,160 suspected measles patients have been hospitalised of whom 34,968 have recovered.
