Jamaat Ameer opposes motorcycle tax hike

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and leader of the opposition in the National Parliament, has opposed the proposed imposition of additional tax on motorcycle owners and riders.

In a verified Facebook post on Sunday at about 11:15am, he stated: Most motorcycle users are not wealthy individuals. They rely on motorcycles out of necessity for their livelihood and daily transportation needs.

While expanding the tax base may be necessary for increasing government revenue, imposing extra financial burdens on people already facing economic pressure will be inappropriate, he noted.

He urged the government to reconsider any such decision that can go against the public interest.
