Bangladesh Press Unity has strongly condemned the alleged attack on journalists in Dhaka and demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible, along with a call to ban Jamaat-e-Islami.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Chairman Chandan Sen Palash and Acting Secretary General Bahauddin Ahmed, the organisation expressed deep concern over the safety of media workers and the growing risks faced by journalists in the course of their professional duties.

The statement said the reported assault reflects a serious threat to press freedom and could discourage independent reporting in the future. It warned that such incidents undermine democratic values and the public’s right to accurate information.

Press Unity alleged that the attack raises broader concerns about journalist safety in politically sensitive environments and urged authorities to ensure accountability through a fair and transparent investigation. It also called for strict legal action against those involved.
