Writ filed seeking probe into Yunus-led govt

A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Sunday seeking its directive to the government to investigate the role of former chief adviser of the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus and other advisers over the measles vaccine issue.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister M Ashraful Islam filed the petition with the related branch of the High Court as a public interest litigation.

The petition also sought HC directive for imposing travel ban on 24 people including Dr Yunus and all former advisers -- from leaving the country until the inquiry is completed.

The cabinet secretary, health secretary, home secretary, public administration secretary, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), and other relevant government officials have been named as respondents in the petition.

Barrister Ashraful said that an "ill-motivated criminal act" was committed by transferring the measles vaccination system from state control to the private sector under the interim government, and that the matter requires investigation.

He said the hearing on the HC is likely to hold hearing on the petition on Monday.

Earlier on April 6, a legal notice was served demanding investigation into alleged criminal activities involving the transfer of vaccination programmes like measles from state to private control.
