The Para Archery Competition and Selection Camp for the inaugural Bangladesh Para Games 2026 began on Tuesday at the Archery Training Academy in Tongi, bringing together around 30 para archers from across the country.
Organised under the banner of the first Bangladesh Para Games, the day-long programme aimed to identify and prepare athletes for future national and international competitions. The event reflected the steady rise of para archery in Bangladesh, a discipline that has gained momentum since the formation of the Bangladesh Para Archery Federation in 2023.
Bangladesh Archery Federation president Dr Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman inaugurated the competition in the morning. National Paralympic Committee (NPC) general secretary Dr Maruf Mridul, Bangladesh Archery Federation general secretary Tanvir Ahmed and Bangladesh national archery team coach Frederic Martin were also present on the occasion.
Participants competed in different categories throughout the day at the Tongi venue, which has become the country's principal hub for archery activities and national training programmes. The academy regularly hosts national championships and selection events involving Bangladesh's leading archers.
Officials expressed optimism that such initiatives would help widen opportunities for differently-abled athletes and strengthen Bangladesh's presence in para sports on the international stage.
Bangladesh has gradually expanded its para archery activities in recent years, with local archers already participating in international events, including the Asian Youth Para Games and World Archery Para competitions.
