Bangladesh have barely had time to enjoy their historic victory in Darwin before turning their attention to the bigger opportunity waiting in Mackay.

The Tigers have begun preparations for the second Test with a gym session, marking the first step in their transition from celebrating a landmark win to preparing for a match that could deliver an even greater achievement.

Bangladesh lead the two-match series 1-0 after defeating Australia by nine wickets in Darwin. A draw in Mackay would be enough to secure the series, while another victory would complete a 2-0 sweep.

But inside the Bangladesh camp, the focus is already on starting again.

The gym work was an important part of that process. After the physical demands of the opening Test and the travel between venues, the immediate priority is to get the players physically refreshed before moving into more intensive cricket work.

The timing is important.

Darwin gave Bangladesh confidence, but Mackay will offer a different challenge. Australia have had several days to examine their defeat and identify where the match slipped away from them. Bangladesh, meanwhile, must make sure the euphoria surrounding their first Test victory in Australia does not become complacency.

The message from Mehedi Hasan Miraz has reflected that mindset. The all-rounder has emphasised the importance of reproducing the level of cricket that brought Bangladesh success in Darwin rather than relying on what they have already achieved.

That will require another collective effort.

Tanzid Hasan's century was the centrepiece of Bangladesh's first-innings batting performance, while the contributions around him helped the Tigers build a commanding total. Hasan Mahmud then produced a match-winning spell, finishing with nine wickets, and Miraz added another five-wicket haul to underline his growing influence in the side.

Australia have responded by changing their squad. Jake Weatherald has been left out after a difficult first Test, with Matt Renshaw returning to the group. The hosts are also facing questions over their top order as they prepare for what is effectively a must-win match.

The pressure is therefore moving in opposite directions.

Australia need to recover.

Bangladesh need to stay disciplined.

Mackay will also provide a fresh backdrop, with the Great Barrier Reef Arena preparing to stage its first men's Test. The venue is expected to draw a strong crowd, adding another dimension to an already significant occasion.

For Bangladesh, the task is straightforward but demanding: forget the celebration, preserve the confidence and reproduce the cricket that changed the series in Darwin.

The first Test gave the Tigers history. The second could give them a series.
