A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of immovable properties and the freezing of bank accounts owned by former President Mohammed Shahabuddin following allegations of acquiring wealth beyond his known income sources.
The Senior Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka delivered the directive on Thursday (August 20) in response to a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC application, preliminary investigations uncovered assets valued at around Tk 1.87 crore registered under Shahabuddin’s name that are disproportionate to his known income. To prevent any transfer or alteration of these assets during the ongoing legal process, the commission sought court orders to freeze and seize the properties.
The court order covers a total of 18 plots registered in Shahabuddin’s name alongside Tk 37,000 kept in two separate bank accounts.
This legal action comes shortly after the former president was named as an accused in a separate financial crime case involving the alleged embezzlement of funds from Islami Bank.
