Govt to procure 3 cargos LNG, 70,000 MTs fertilizer

 
The government approved separate proposals for procuring three cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market and procuring 70,000 metric tons of fertilizer to ensure uninterrupted energy and fertilizer supply in the country.

The approvals came from the 23rd meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) for 2026 held at the Cabinet Division Conference room at the Secretariat on Saturday with Finance minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair, where three procurement proposals were placed and discussed, according to BSS report. 

The committee recommended for approval a proposal of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division for purchasing three LNG cargoes from the international spot market through international quotation collection under Rule 105(3)(Ka) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025.

The LNG cargoes are scheduled for delivery during June 15-16, June 21-22 and June 25-26, 2026, corresponding to the 23rd, 24th and 25th cargo consignments.

The total procurement cost, including Advance Income Tax (AIT), has been estimated at Taka 2,330.82 crore.

Under the proposal, two cargoes will be procured from Posco International Corporation of South Korea and one cargo from TotalEnergies Gas & Power Ltd of the United Kingdom (UK).

The committee recommended for approval a proposal of the Ministry of Industries to import 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer under the 15th lot from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), Bangladesh, during the 2025-26 fiscal year.

The total procurement cost has been fixed at Taka 254.52 crore while the price per metric ton was determined at US$688.375, including a Free on Board (FOB) price of US$683.375 and a bagging charge of US$5.00.

Officials said the fertilizer would be procured from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), Bangladesh, to maintain a steady supply of fertilizer for the agricultural sector.

Meanwhile, the committee also recommended a proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture for importing 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer under the 12th (optional fourth) lot from OCP Nutricrops of Morocco under a state-level agreement with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

The proposed procurement cost for the DAP  (Diammonium Phosphate)  fertilizer import was estimated at Taka 434.66 crore with a price of US$881.67 per metric ton.
