13 firefighting units battling Kalshi slum blaze amid water shortage

The fire that broke out at Kalshi slum in the capital’s Mirpur area on Monday evening could not be brought under control till night, as firefighters continued efforts to contain the blaze with 13 units deployed at the scene.

According to Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters media cell official Anwarul Islam Dolon, the fire was reported at around 7:23 PM.

Firefighters rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information and gradually increased the number of units engaged in the operation as the fire spread through the densely populated slum area.

“Currently, 13 firefighting units are working to bring the fire under control,” he said.

He added that firefighters were facing difficulties due to a shortage of water, which was hampering efforts to contain the blaze quickly.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be known immediately.

No casualties had been reported till filing of this report.
