DUCSU Vice President (VP) Abu Shadik Kayem on Thursday said people must remain prepared for the future in the same spirit of sacrifice shown during the July movement to build a justice-based state.
He made the remarks while speaking at a meat distribution programme organised by Ramna Social Welfare Society for poor, distressed and underprivileged people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha at Bailey Road in the capital.
Speaking as the chief guest, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami central executive council member and Dhaka South city Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul said Jamaat activists would successfully remove sacrificial waste across the city even if the city corporations fail to do so.
“Our past experiences prove that city corporations have repeatedly failed to provide proper public services, including waste management. They only make tall claims,” he said.
Bulbul said Jamaat activists in every area of Dhaka had been preparing sacrificial meat since morning for distribution among poor and underprivileged people and that he personally participated in the activities in several areas.
Referring to those killed in the July mass uprising, he said Jamaat considered every martyr’s family as its own and had been carrying out humanitarian responsibilities for them from the beginning. “The party will continue to stand beside the injured July fighters in the future as well,” he added.
He further said Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman had declared martyr families as part of the Jamaat family and leaders and activists at all levels were working accordingly.
Speaking as a special guest, Jamaat central working committee member and Dhaka South Nayeb-e-Ameer Advocate Dr Helal Uddin said those who sacrificed their lives for the country were national heroes and honoured martyrs in the eyes of Allah.
“The contribution of these national heroes will not be allowed to go in vain. A new Bangladesh envisioned by the martyrs will be built through Jamaat-e-Islami,” he said.
DUCSU VP Abu Shadik Kayem said hearing the cries and aspirations of martyr families inspired them anew. “We will not allow any fascism to rise again in the new Bangladesh,” he added, urging Dhaka residents to unite against what he termed “neo-fascism.”
The programme was presided over by Ramna Social Welfare Society chairman and DSCC ward no 19 councillor candidate Abdus Sattar Sumon.
Among others present were Dhaka South Jamaat executive committee member and social welfare secretary Shahin Ahmed Khan, Ramna Social Welfare Society secretary Md Atikur Rahman, local businessman Abdullah Al Faruq and other local dignitaries.
