Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain and gusty winds in nine regions of the country by tonight and advised river ports in the affected areas to hoist Local Cautionary Signal no. 1.

According to a river port forecast issued on Wednesday by BMD meteorologist Md. Shahinul Islam, the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Kushtia and Sylhet may experience temporary gusty or squally winds from the west or northwest at speeds ranging between 45 and 60 kilometres per hour, along with rain or thundershowers by 1:00 am.

The weather office instructed river ports in these areas to hoist Local Cautionary Signal no. 1.

In its regular weather bulletin issued earlier on Wednesday, BMD said that by 9:00 am on Thursday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning may occur at several places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions.

Meanwhile, a mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping across the districts of Dhaka, Narayanganj, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Mymensingh, Chandpur, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, Lakshmipur, Barishal, Patuakhali and Bhola, as well as the divisions of Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna. The heatwave is expected to persist.

BMD further stated that day and night temperatures across the country are likely to remain nearly unchanged during the forecast period.
