In a move aimed at improving commuter convenience, authorities have decided to extend the operating hours of Dhaka's Metro Rail service by 20 minutes. The revised schedule is set to take effect from June 7, allowing passengers additional time for evening travel.

According to sources familiar with the decision, the proposal to delay the departure of the last trains from both Uttara North and Motijheel terminals has received official approval. Necessary preparations and trial operations have already been completed.

Under the current schedule, the final train departs from Uttara North Station at 9:30 PM, while the last train leaves Motijheel at 10:10 PM. With the new timetable, the final train from Uttara North will depart at 9:50 PM, and the last Uttara-bound service from Motijheel will leave at 10:30 PM.

Officials said that no additional trains will be introduced. Instead, an extra trip will be operated within the existing schedule while maintaining the current 20-minute interval between services.

The decision comes in response to growing passenger demand and increasing pressure on the transport network during evening hours. Authorities believe the extended service will particularly benefit office workers, students, and other commuters who rely on the Metro Rail for late-night travel.

An official announcement regarding the revised schedule is expected soon. The extension is being viewed as another positive step toward enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of Dhaka's public transportation system.
