Rainfall likely in Dhaka, 7 other regions

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds in eight regions of the country, including the capital, by Friday noon.

According to a bulletin issued by the Storm Warning Centre, west or northwesterly winds with speeds ranging from 45 to 60 kilometres per hour may sweep over Dhaka, Faridpur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Tangail, Mymensingh and Sylhet regions between 5:00am and 1:00pm.

In view of the potential weather conditions, river ports in the affected areas have been advised to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.

In its 24-hour weather forecast ending at 6:00PM on Friday, the BMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely at a few places in Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places in Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Chattogram divisions.

The meteorological agency also predicted moderately heavy rainfall at isolated places across the country.

Meanwhile, a mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Dhaka, Tangail, Manikganj, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Rangamati and Lakshmipur, as well as the Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions.

However, the prevailing heatwave conditions may subside in some parts of the country, the forecast added.
