Mahbubul Haque, Mahbubul Alam Tara remembered

Political leaders, economists and academics on Thursday paid tribute to former Members of Parliament Mahbubul Haque and Mahbubul Alam Tara, recalling their contributions to politics, business and national development at a discussion meeting held at the National Press Club on the occasion of their death anniversaries.

The event was organised in memory of the two brothers and brought together prominent figures from different sectors to reflect on their lives and achievements.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, attended the programme as the chief guest. The discussion was presided over by BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu.

Among the special guests were economist Dr Mahbub Ullah, Chairman of ICB; Professor Dr Abu Ahmed; Mohammad Nurul Amin, Chairman of Bangladesh Krishi Bank; S.K. Sadi, former central committee member and convener of the Nationalist Farmers' Party; and Dr M. Mashrur Riaz, Founder and Chairman of Policy Exchange Bangladesh.

The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Professor Jafrun Nahar, daughter of Mahbubul Haque, welcomed the guests and formally inaugurated the event. Syed Md Andaleeb Mahbubul Haque presented brief biographies of the two former lawmakers. Speaking on the occasion, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid deep tribute to Mahbubul Haque and Mahbubul Alam Tara, describing them as visionary leaders whose contributions would continue to inspire future generations.

He also urged Bangla Academy to document and publish their biographies so that future generations could learn about their lives and contributions.

Dr Mahbub Ullah highlighted Mahbubul Haque's role in advocating for the rights and autonomy of the people of the then East Pakistan. 

In his concluding remarks, Shamsuzzaman Dudu expressed gratitude and respect for the contributions of Mahbubul Haque and Mahbubul Alam Tara, saying their service to the nation would be remembered for years to come.

S.K. Sadi, Dr M. Mashrur Riaz , Mohammad Nurul Amin and Professor Dr Abu Ahmed, among other spoke on the occasion.
