An important meeting of ruling party lawmakers at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Saturday focused on a wide range of national issues, including education reform, economic pressures, healthcare preparedness and major infrastructure development.

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman, began at 3:30pm and continued until 6:20pm at the parliamentary party meeting room. It was conducted by Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni.

Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony said the discussions covered legislative affairs, development programmes and coordination among ministries.

Addressing the education sector, lawmakers were informed that the national curriculum is being reviewed and revised to correct existing weaknesses. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of introducing more work-oriented and skill-based education, saying that an education system must create employment opportunities to be effective.

In the economic discussion, the meeting reviewed rising commodity prices and the impact of currency fluctuations on import costs. The Chief Whip said the government is taking steps to ease pressure on consumers and stabilise the overall situation.

On healthcare, the meeting was told that nationwide preparedness has been strengthened to combat dengue and prevent measles outbreaks. Authorities are also working to ensure regular attendance of doctors at upazila-level health facilities.

Infrastructure development featured prominently in the discussion, with the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry reporting progress on tenders for 1,000 kilometres of new roads. The Prime Minister directed that all projects be implemented efficiently, at lower cost and with strict measures against corruption.

The meeting also reviewed progress on expanding BKSP branches, accelerating the Bangabandhu National Stadium project, and improving youth training and employment opportunities. Development activities related to Chittagong and Mongla ports, as well as the Teesta Barrage project, were also discussed.

Lawmakers were briefed that efforts are underway to expand electricity coverage further and review adjustments in power pricing.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prime Minister urged lawmakers to work collectively to implement ongoing development initiatives and future policy commitments, while participants expressed satisfaction over the opportunity to exchange views on key national priorities.
